I am James Coffie-Ken, a passionate Mechanical Engineer and Technical Analyst with a rich blend of academic excellence and hands-on industry experience. I specialize in manufacturing operations, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, and safety compliance. My career journey has taken me across continents, from Ghana to China and now Canada, driven by my dedication to innovation, technical problem-solving, and inclusive leadership.
I hold a Master of Science in Control Science and Engineering from Southwest University of Science and Technology in China, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. My academic background is further enriched by certifications in Safety Management, Advanced Manufacturing, and Canadian Advanced Manufacturing Leadership (CAML).
Professionally, I have had the privilege of working in several impactful roles. As a Mechanical Engineer at James Farms in Ghana, I led the installation and maintenance of industrial machinery, conducted energy audits, and implemented lean manufacturing strategies that significantly improved operational efficiency. I also served as a Supervisor and Safety Officer at the Technology Consultancy Centre, where I oversaw heavy equipment operations, trained technicians in safety protocols, and managed day-to-day technical challenges. Additionally, I’ve contributed to academia as a Research and Teaching Assistant, and worked as a Maintenance Technician Intern at AngloGold Ashanti, honing my skills in diagnostics, repair, and large-scale machinery troubleshooting.
Since relocating to Canada, I’ve immersed myself in career-bridging programs such as the "Connecting to Careers in Advanced Manufacturing" initiative by ACCES Employment and a 3-day CNC training program with Northwest Skills Institute. These experiences have strengthened my adaptability in a new industrial context and deepened my skills in electric motor actuators, lean manufacturing, and electro-pneumatics.
Beyond engineering, I am a researcher, writer, and advocate. I’m currently developing a research paper on the application of lithium-ion batteries in robotics for submission to the Journal of Power Sources. I also enjoy working on innovative projects, such as a smart wearable technology initiative that integrates mechanical design, electronics, and human-centered engineering.
My goal is to contribute meaningfully to Canada’s engineering and manufacturing landscape—whether through hands-on technical roles, research, or leadership positions. I am actively seeking opportunities where I can apply my technical expertise, cross-cultural experience, and passion for innovation to solve real-world challenges.
