electrical and computer engineering engineering design social science and humanities project managementLooking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on learners from the Engineering Science Electrical and Computer Engineering capstone course at the University of Toronto to be your learner-consultants, in a project-based design experience. Learners will work on one design design cycle of a project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Learners
- A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
- A design process and outcomes report including their research, design work, insights and recommendations

Project Examples
Requirements
Note: Projects are sought from organizations that have UofT Engineering alumni who can act as one of the points of contact.
Learners in groups of 4 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their design work. Students work on a project where they go through one design iteration of framing the opportunity and their value proposition, developing an initial design idea, developing a supporting proof-of-concept protype for this initial idea resulting in artefacts that can aid in future design cycles. Projects typically require students to leverage some of their skills in electrical and computer engineering but are not constrained to be in an engineering domain.
Projects that work well are those that have the potential to improve your business, but are not on the critical path, since there is risk in outcomes with student projects.
Examples of past project include:
- Helping client map and communicate flow financial capital as it relates to socio-economic indicators
- Helping client characterize materials of in 3D-printed artefacts to aid in recycling of unwanted 3D printed artefacts.
- Helping clients help their customers leverage internal company knowledge better.
- Helping clients develop and extracting new biomarkers from combination of physiology monitoring and imaging sources for better disease detection and monitoring.
