Description

The single-most difficult task HR or university admission has to handle is: how do you judge the soft skills of a job applicant or a student?

Imagine a single number that would help, particularly in business etiquette, empathy or intercultural awareness. It is called the 'World Civility Index', which is now a part of United Nations Sustainable Development (Goal #8 Meaningful Youth Employment) and is used in 17 countries as of 2019.

Enhancing GDP with a new measurement to reflect humanity well-being

IITTI, an NGO specializing in soft skills accreditation, proposes augmenting the current economic framework by complementing GDP with a new metric: the World Civility Index (WCI). The WCI aims to capture overlooked aspects of human well-being, such as empathy, intercultural awareness, and social etiquette, which are essential for fostering thriving, equitable societies. The project will involve comprehensive research into societal wellness to demonstrate the limitations of GDP as a sole measure of economic progress. This research will highlight the value of incorporating civility metrics to provide a more holistic understanding of societal health.

Project feedback
Working with the team from IITTI on the “Enhancing IITTI’s Marketing Strategy” project was a valuable and eye-opening experience. Patrick, the co-founder, was particularly responsive and deeply dedicated to the organization’s mission. His engagement with our team made the collaboration more impactful and encouraged us to think critically about the strategic direction of the initiative. I strongly believe in the importance of training and assessing human (or soft) skills, especially in today’s environment where AI is increasingly taking over many technical and task-based functions. IITTI’s focus on promoting global standards for human skills is both timely and essential. It was meaningful to contribute to a project that aligns so closely with that purpose. The client provided clear objectives and timely feedback, which helped us refine our recommendations and focus on the most relevant aspects of their marketing strategy. Their openness to student-led ideas and thoughtful input throughout the project gave us a realistic view of working in a purpose-driven, global context. This collaboration helped me strengthen my skills in stakeholder communication, strategic analysis, and solution design. It also reinforced the value of aligning business strategies with long-term human development goals. Overall, this was a highly rewarding experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such a committed organization.
